Men often like to stroke their egos, especially when it comes to women. What have spawned are two schools of thought when it comes to hooking up being quality and quantity. Guys will often measure their alpha male status based on the amount of girls they've hooked up with. Take my colleague "Eddie" for example. My dear friend is notorious for the "quantity" mindset, constantly approaching the most "beat" girls at the bar and bragging about his conquests.
We often butt heads because my school of thought is "quality". You see I always judge a man on the type of "tail" he can bring in because I can appreciate the value of a challenge. Most guys when they see an attractive girl with a doucebag guy, they will get angry. I usually tip my hat to the guy because he figured out a way to attract this girl. Any guy with enough confidence and decent style has the power to pick up an average girl at the bar. It’s become so bad at the bar sometimes that Eddie will introduce me to a group of gargoyles thinking he is doing me a favour. In reality I'm stuck in a realm of “boring and unattractive”. Then even as I pull a Patrick Ewing style block (it’s a turning my back motion), these girls won't leave me alone for the rest of the night. Eddie will then argue I have "weak game" and mock my conquests because I might happen to leave the night solo. Meanwhile he'll go home with a girl that was plastered front page of TheDirty.com whom he probably wouldn't be caught with in broad daylight.
Now I can hear the arguments "Wally you need to lighten up, stop being such a prude, your not so hot yourself!" or "Wally we all need to get laid, sex is natural" For starters I have had a "few" regrettable hook-ups in my time and I can tell you sex with the easy bait is much worse and less memorable than sex with a girl you've put in your "Don Juan" time with. Also ladies please don't be confused with the "type" of girl I'm referring to. I'm not looking for a girl walking the red carpet at the AVN awards; I'm looking for a confident girl who can back up her looks with her conversation. I generally go for girls who will catch my eye and figure out a quick and quirky game plan to get her attention. If I get her number, mission accomplished, if we happen to hook up, hey we've hit the bonus rounds. The goal here isn’t ultimately to hook up (well MOST of the time); the goal is to find another roster spot on Team Wally. Surrounding yourself with quality people makes you more of a quality person. I say this all the time, there have been spans where I haven't had sex for months and being someone that is happy and secure with myself, I’m totally cool with that (aka not desperate).
