Anushka Sharma is on a roll
Anushka Sharma had a dream debut in Bollywood, yet she had to struggle hard to make her own place in the industry.
A model from Bangalore, Anushka Sharma grabbed a juicy lead role opposite Shahrukh Khan in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. But the film wasn’t as big a success as was expected from the director of Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. Anushka’s raw talent too got hardly a nod of approval.
But 2010 proved to be a watershed year for this svelte damsel. First, her Badmaash Company fared well at box office; but what finally propelled her to the crest of fame is Band Baaja Baaraat, for which she has also bagged a Best Actress nomination for the 17th Star Screen awards.
Heeding Anushka’s talent and her rising popularity among movie buffs, even the makers of Patiala House, which stars her opposite Akshay Kumar, have given more importance to her in the movie’s posters. Previously, she was relegated to the background. Now, she’s posing pretty in the front. That’s what a hit film and notable performance can do to your career.
“I would rather be known for my acting than my costumes or magazine photoshoots,” Anushka says.
We hear that following the success of Band Baaja Baaraat, she is being approached for bigger films and meatier roles. But Anushka is quite picky about what she signs.
