Michele Bachmann, appeared on NBC's "Meet the Press" and was asked questions about her anti-gay stance. Interviewer David Gregory played audio of anti-gay comments she had made at a 2004 National Education Leadership Conference.
"It's a very sad life. It's part of Satan, I think, to say that this is 'gay'. It's anything but 'gay.'"
“If you’re involved in the gay and lesbian lifestyle, it’s bondage. It is personal bondage, personal despair and personal enslavement. And that’s why this is so dangerous."
“We need to have profound compassion for people who are dealing with the very real issue of sexual dysfunction in their life, and sexual identity disorders.”
I found it interesting that Bachmann was able to so firmly assert her anti-gay stance in 2004 but now she avoids responsibility for her statements. She dodges Gregory's comments and responds by suggesting that her anti-gay views are not important in regards to whether she is a viable candidate for presidency. She also states that the questions Gregory presents are not important as they are not what individuals are concerned about at this time. I think MANY, espcially the LGBTQI community, are concerned about her anti-gay stances as her views are dangerous, especially if she were to be put into office as president.
