If I could show you
The me you want me to be,
Would you like me, date me,
Or leave me be?
If you could see past these hopeless
Imperfections of mine
You may well see
That I can be sublime
For I too have stories to be told,
Events that have shaped me,
People that have loved,
Devoured and hated me.
I have passed my own test
I’m here and alive, and would like to suggest
That we strive to survive the
Things that we know, together
For now, so do we give it a go?
I see in you the hurt that’s been caused
Along your own journey, by other men’s flaws.
I recognise some, but not nearly all,
These things that I see don’t always reflect what is in me.
So I like you, and I’ll take you on your word,
We share a bond, the human third
Is what we become when the two become one,
And what was two melodies, becomes our one song.
I may not be perfect, and I have many reasons
To change with the seasons
I don’t expect you to understand,
But I’d like to walk with you and hold your hand.
And somehow along the way
We may find the harmony that was dischordant yesterday,
Overcome what has made us betrayed
And give us both some reason to stay.
And if we don’t, well we’ll know we tried,
Tried to make us feel alive,
Tried to sing in every way
Didn’t fail, just seized the day.
